Koffler Arts launches a new initiative, curated by Alon Nashman: World Play: Reading Toronto’s Many Languages. This series of live readings celebrates Toronto’s extraordinary linguistic and cultural diversity – a city where over 200 languages are spoken.

Each evening invites audiences to experience a rich tapestry of voices through brief readings of poetry, theatre, fiction, philosophy, and song lyrics, all performed in multiple languages, and translated into English. The series opens with the theme BIRTH, connecting each text through a shared exploration of origins, creation and beginnings.

More than a literary showcase, World Play is also an immersive journey into phonaesthetics – the beauty and resonance of language as sound.

The audience will be provided with the excerpts in the original languages and English translations.
